Here is some information from the official website:

"Haddon Hall is a fortified medieval manor house dating from the 12 th Century, and is the home of Lord and Lady Edward Manners whose family have owned it since 1567.

Described by Simon Jenkins in 1000 Best houses as "the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages", this remarkable old house is surrounded by terraced Elizabethan gardens and is set amongst the rolling countryside of the Peak District National Park.

Haddon has welcomed visitors for hundreds of years and its beauty and atmosphere never fails to enchant.

The house is open to visitors from April to October, with a number of special events being staged throughout the season. School parties and groups are very welcome. Further details can be found within the website.

Haddon has featured in many films and TV programmes including, most recently Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightly, Mathew MacFadeyn, and Dame Judy Dench. Also BBC’s 2006 production of Jane Eyre starring Toby Stevens and Ruth Wilson. "

Backlit Orchid against Black Background
Orchids

This orchid seems to be thriving on minimum care.

Strobist info. The main light was a YN560 in a Rogue grid. I positioned it behind the flower because I wanted the luminous petals that backlighting provides. Below in the comments is a picture of the flower with just the backlighting. For fill light, I put a YN560-II in a 24inch softbox right close to the flower, camera right at 3 o’clock, and then handheld a small mirror camera left to bounce a little light into the center. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I’ve photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I’ve used to learn how to light with off camera flash, and the equipment that I use. www.flickr.com/photos/9422

This is a Bright Light (or luz fuerte) orchid. Different colors than any I’ve photographed recently.

Strobist info: The main light was a YN560-II in a 24 inch softbox camera left at 8 o’clock, and the fill light was a YN560 in an identical softbox camera right at 4 o’clock. Both strobes were in manual mode and were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I’ve photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I’ve used to learn how to light with off camera flash, and the equipment that I use. www.flickr.com/photos/9422
